In Toulouse, called the “pink city” because of the colour of many of its buildings, Capitole Square is the heart of the commercial and social life of the city.
While walking through the surrounding streets and squares, you will find artisans who transform Toulouse’s violet –a purple winter flower– into perfumes, liqueurs, honey, jams, … or use pastel –a blue pigment closely linked to the historic trade of the city– to dye cloths.
Toulouse is an authentic cultural, university, industrial, aerospace and gastronomic metropolis surrounded by small fortified villages marked by a deep artisanal tradition.
Between Toulouse and Carcassonne, you will find Revel, the city of furniture. Since a famous master cabinetmaker settled down there in 1888, this little fortified town has hosted the major concentration of artisans specialized in furniture making.
From there, you can continue to Carmaux to know more about glass work, stop at the House of Leather Trades in Graulhet, walk through the Pyrenees or Santiago de Compostela routes, or discover the ancient Roman city of Saint Bertrand de Comminges.
