La Bisbal d’Empordà

La Bisbal d'Empordà

Halfway between the city of Girona and the beautiful coves of Costa Brava, La Bisbal d’Empordà, the capital of ceramics, hosts Terracotta, Ceramics Museum, located in an ancient ceramics factory. Come and learn about the professions of brickmaker and potter and travel through 500 years of ceramic tradition until the current pieces made with the latest innovative techniques.

Have a walk along the colourful Aigüeta street, which hosts most ceramics shops of the region, and have a look at the “Ceràmica de la Bisbal” PDO pieces. Stroll through the labyrinthine alleys of the old town, full of shops, bars and restaurants, and enjoy Castell Palau, one of the best-preserved Romanesque castles (11-12th centuries) in Catalonia.

This town and the surrounding villages of Empordanet gather plenty of craft companies. A good way to find out about the diversity of their production is to book a visit of one of the workshops that offer guided tours or give you the opportunity to make your own piece.
